Digital Content Writer

Does your writing make birds sing and part seas? Is results-driven social media management and posting second nature to you? We are looking for a digital content writer to join our on-site team in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, to write content both for Hawthorn’s blog and clients’ blog sites focused on leisure travel, as well as manage Hawthorn and client social media channels. The right candidate will have a way with words, in addition to strong social media management skills. He or she will also have a strong understanding and comfort level with the functionality and analytics tools associated with all primary social media platforms, WordPress, and on-page SEO.

 

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Report and write journalistic-style stories and travel posts for destination blog site client projects.
  • Develop the post ideas and write for Hawthorn’s blog, using analytics to inform future post topics.
  • Manage primary social media channels for Hawthorn and client content projects, including review of analytics to inform both overarching strategy and future post ideas you will develop on your own.
  • Serve as primary managing editor on client digital content projects, including both social media and blog site execution.
  • Assist with a variety of other Hawthorn marketing communications tasks, including development and content writing for email campaigns and one-off marketing copywriting projects.
  • Leave work every day with your cup full because of the challenging, entrepreneurial, and never-the-same-old approach we employ in every project we execute.

 

What You Need for this Position:

  • 2+ years in marketing/editorial digital communications.
  • A way with words.
  • Extensive experience using primary social media platforms (can be for personal use), plus analytics tools thereof.
  • Strong understanding of how SEO and keyword tools will inform every word you write.
  • Ability to understand Hawthorn and client marketing objectives and strategy and to always communicate with the right audience in mind.
  • Understanding and comfort level with interviewing sources by phone and ability to write with journalistic-style voice.
  • Working understanding of WordPress, keyword tools, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Bonus points: experience with Salesforce, Pardot, and HubSpot.
  • A desire to work with a team, both leading and filling the necessary tasks asked of others in the execution of projects with minimal supervision.
  • An unwavering commitment to deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task a large volume of projects and tasks.
  • BA/BS degree, most likely in a marketing, journalism, or communications field.

Content Writing Internship

Hawthorn Creative is always looking to pay it forward to young professionals looking to break into the industry. Primary responsibilities include writing for both print and web, blogging, SEO analysis, article and industry research, fact checking, and assisting with marketing initiatives, like e-mail campaigns.

Graphic Design Internship

We are looking for an intern for 16 hours per week to assist in supporting our design team with various duties, including production, image cropping, file management, and photo research. Candidate must have solid technical skills in Photoshop and InDesign, as well as a positive attitude and strong work ethic.

 

This internship is unpaid; however, you will be doing actual work that our designers do currently and not fetching coffee. If you like to work hard and want to learn skills you will actually use in the job force, this is the internship for you.

 

Requirements: must be enrolled in or have graduated from an associate’s or bachelor’s degree program in Graphic Design.
