Content Manager

Do you have a way with written words – no, we don’t just mean that you can write; we mean, you make sentences sing, like Hallelujah Chorus sing?
The Content Manager will both write for and manage several concurrent print and digital content projects, blog websites, one-time digital editorial content projects, custom magazines, and newsletters. Almost all projects will focus on travel/destination content for our clients who are some of the biggest and most notable names in the hospitality industry (hotels and resorts, ski resorts, hotel brands, wedding venues, and beyond).

Hawthorn Creative is a full-service marketing agency dedicated to the event and hospitality industry. Our team of designers, content developers, strategists, and account executives is passionate about merging powerful creative with strategy to drive results. Our client list includes some of the biggest and most notable names in the hospitality industry (hotels and resorts, ski resorts, hotel brands, and beyond).

What you will be doing:

  • Developing story ideas and editorial lineups directly with clients to blend their marketing objectives with the kind of editorial chops that will keep leisure travelers and corporate meeting planners engaged.
  • Reporting and writing stories for destination blog sites, one-time digital content projects, and custom magazines.
  • Assigning and content editing stories submitted by both internal writers and freelancers.
  • Managing clients’ social media presence and postings on an ongoing basis.
  • Developing the edit calendars and text for client email campaigns.
  • Reviewing and reporting on analytics (web, email, and social media) directly to clients to identify project success, ROI, and adjustments in content strategy.
  • Working hand-in-hand with more-senior content managers, graphic designers, and photo editors to make every story look its absolute best.
  • Additional responsibilities may include loading content into websites, copy writing and execution of other projects, research projects, and fact checking.

What you need for this position:

  • 1-3 years’ experience, plus bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
  • Expert-level journalistic-style writing skills.
  • An unwavering commitment to deadlines and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of SEO and keyword principles as it relates to writing for the web.
  • A plus: Working understanding of WordPress, keyword tools, Indesign, and PhotoShop.
  • A bigger plus: Experience building editorial concepts where the visual end product is king.
  • Bonus points: experience with Salesforce.
  • Ability to work in our Portsmouth, NH office.

Graphic Design Intern

We are looking for an intern for 16 hours per week to assist in supporting our design team with various duties including production, image cropping, file management, and photo research. Candidate must have solid technical skills in Photoshop and InDesign as well as a positive attitude and strong work ethic.

This internship is unpaid, however, you will be doing actual work that our designer’s do currently and not fetching coffee. If you like to work hard and want to learn skills you will actually use in the job force, this is the internship for you.


Must be enrolled in or have graduated from an Associate’s or Bachelors’ degree program in Graphic Design.
